You’ve already met Patrick, our Director of Exercise Physiology. Aside from being a core member of the product and data science teams, he’s also our resident expert when it comes to all things health and wellness. We have the privilege of getting all of our diet, exercise, or sleep questions answered on demand at Motiv HQ, and want to share the knowledge. Here’s a bonus for you: ask Patrick your own health, fitness or sleep questions and you might see it featured in a blog!

Light from electronics, like your phone or TV, can disrupt your circadian rhythms. Turning them off an hour before bed can help you get to sleep faster. Instead, leaf through your favorite magazine or pick up a new book.

Feel fatigued? Chia seeds, bananas, quinoa and oatmeal are all packed with key nutrients to keep you energized throughout the day. Motiv office always has bananas on hand for a quick pick-me-up!

Bodyweight exercises like squats are great for any fitness level. They can help increase core strength, improve flexibility and prevent injuries. Can’t do a full work-out? Doing a few squats and push-ups at home helps – don’t forget to get that heart rate up, even if it’s for 10 minutes!

Meditation can help offset the part of your brain that releases cortisol, resulting in lower stress levels. Block out 5-10 minutes in your calendar to meditate and decompress, whether it’s to take a break in the middle of the day, or unwind before bed.

Question of the week
Q: What is the best form of exercise?
A: The best exercise is the one you enjoy. One of the keys with exercise is consistency. Finding activities that you enjoy makes it more likely you’ll repeat it. Start with activities you like, and once you get going, you can always explore new fun ways to stay active and expand your routine!

Don’t forget to send in your own health or wellness questions, on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter!
